Viking Shield Pendant
The Vikings demonstrated their wealth, power and status by wearing beautiful jewellery made from precious metals. Many jewellery items were made from silver ingots, coins and Danegeld payments which were melted down as a raw material. The Vikings made intricate and masterful jewellery using techniques such as filigree and repose. A pewter Viking Shield pendant supplied on a silver chain. The information on the reverse of the large fold-over card describes how and why the Vikings wore jewellery and the techniques used to make it. Shield is approx 3.5cm in diameter.
