Winter Solstice

The Winter Solstice, celebrated June 21st - 22nd in the Southern hemisphere is an ancient solar ritual as an old solar year ends and a new one begins. While the Solstice itself occurs on the shortest day of the yearly cycle, where the night is longer than the actual day, astronomically the Solstice marks the beginning of shortening nights and lengthening days to come. A time for her to regain strength and energy, to recall what has been and to ponder what shall be. This hibernation is also seen in the lands and nature as it too slows down and we find ourselves and animals hibernating away in the warmth and cover of our homes, nests and trees.
